More New Shows Alert!

Okay, so I know this is starting to look like one of those fly-by-night concert update blogs, but man, the announcements are coming in fast! It just seemed like two days ago that I learned Wilco was coming to the IU Auditorium (4/16), and as I’m typing this, I’ve got a fistful of tickets. Apparently they’ve got a new record coming out this summer, too, so there’s that. I bought my tickets on Wednesday, and the place was already about 60% sold out, so good luck to people trying to score back-of-the-balcony tickets now that it’s opened up to non-students. Now let’s convince Radiohead to come here, guys.
But that’s not even the half of it! WIUX, the super-cute little student-run indie-centric LPFM station here in town, just announced the lineup for their annual Culture Shock festival, and while it appears to be shaved down from years past, man is it solid. Probably the best I’ve seen, and I can vaguely remember when Yo La Tengo played it in like 1995 (maybe? Lots of gravity bong rips that year). Seriously, though: Four Tet and Dan Bejar?! The guys who made Rounds and Rubies, playing in Dunn Meadow, where hippies let their dogs run around and that one group of weirdos practices moves with their swords? Yup. Apparently Bejar’s playing solo, stripped-down versions of his stuff, which is cool. Looks like he’s setting up Four Tet, which seems like an iffy headliner for much of the crowd; they’d better not, but I can see lots of people splitting after Bejar if that’s the case. Then again, I can’t imagine Bejar going on with a hollow-box after everyone wilds the fuck out to “Smile Around the Face.”
Death Vessel’s also playing, as well as hat-tip-to-Bloomington’s multicultural voting bloc Extra Golden, who are much better than my snarky comment indicates. Dan Friel, who opened for Bon Iver last year with his blown-out self-soldered electronic fury (it was funny to watch reactions, really), is also playing. The surprisingly Googleable self-referential spaz-punk Bloomingtonites Tremendous Fucking are gonna play too, along with local duo Found Objects, who by the sound of their Myspace jams I imagine are pretty stoked to be sharing a bill with Friel and Four Tet.
