marathonpacks’ 2007 Year-End Mixes, Vols. I & II
Thursday, December 20, 2007
As usual, I hope you like these; they’re a pretty clear snapshot of what I listened to over and over this year. The more I think about these mixes–what with the rampant genre-jumping, the questionable transitions, the inevitable omissions–the more I wonder if anyone other than me really likes them, if they appeal to Internet music geeks only, or if those two are much less than mutually-exclusive. I suppose they’d be tough to play at a club (too much indie rock) or a record store (not enough indie rock), so I hope you’ve got a use for them–remember, re-gifting is always an option with this sort of thing. Also: if I know you and presents are a thing we do, get ready for these in CD form.
In other news: you can see a version of my top 25s (singles | albums) over at the upstart tastemaking famous Pitchfork blog, but expect something longer in this space next week, explaining stuff (and altering my ever-altering list). Also, as I did last year, I’m planning to have some friends over for egg-nog and list-makings of their own. They’ll put me to shame, for sure. For now, though: 200MB of year-end jams.

I’ve worn out last year’s Mix 2 with repeated listening (and enjoyed all 4). Thanks for making these.
Incredible. Can’t wait to fire these up on my 4 hour train ride later tonight!
Thanks so much for these. I’ve really enjoyed listening to them over the last few weeks – great choices, great tunes!
