With My Fingers in the Glovebox

Central Indiana denizens/fans of indie rock/scene aspirants/aides-de-camp: you have no excuse, not even a little one, to miss Marmoset's show this evening at Radio Radio. They're celebrating the release of the killer Florist Fired, which the keyboard player from Spoon (see item two) gave a nice little rating on the Pitchfork blog. Five bucks, three bands. Including Marmoset, the best indie band to ever emerge from Indianoplace.
Florist isn't quite the wonder that 2001's Record in Red was, nor are most albums. Head over to Secretly Canadian's site to download A Marmoset Menagerie, which the band compiled with/for the label. Particularly noteworthy there are "Frendamine" and "Lost Days for Ways," but left off is my personal favorite, "Forever We Ignite" (mp3), from 1999's Today It's You LP. A post-Pavement bathroom stall-scrawl as a love letter, and I choo-choo-choose it. While you're over there, buy all of Marmoset's records too.
-----------------
Caught. Okay, not really. But still. Word has it that Pitchfork really, srsly got like 100 WTF emails the day that review ran. For those who don't know what I'm talking about: third line, first graf. Har.
-----------------
How ironic is it that Patti Boyd/Harrison/Clapton's first date with the non-Hindu God took place at the play "Oh! Calcutta!"? More.
-----------------
Also for localz, check out the show guide on the sidebar over there ----> Some great stuff coming up---Magnolia Electric Co.'s return to the U.S. show; the Dirty Projectors (Daytrotter session), they of the new Black Flag "reimagining" Rise Above, coming to the Bus-Chum with YACHT; the wonderful Casey Dienel at Bear's Place, which is now hosting the number of shows they've always needed to; the chilly weirdo folk-pop of Amiina at the aforementioned Radio Radio; effing Mekons in Lafayette; and WEEN beginning their fall U.S. tour at the Bluebird! This, after making me return my tickets the last time, during the Quebec tour, cancelling for health reasons (glad the Scotch-Gard wore off dudes). Hopefully plenty of classic stuff, but I wouldn't doubt they'll debut some stuff from the forthcoming La Cucaracha, to be released, the site claims, in late September.
Speaking of Ween, a band that I've adored since discovering them in 1993 via Beavis & Butthead, here are two versions of "Freedom of '76" from Chocolate and Cheese, their 1994 Elektra debut. The top one demonstrates that, in 1994, even a band like Ween with a song like this could get the type of label dough thrown at them that enables a video with this size cast:
Then, an appearance on Jane Pratt's (hey! remember Jane Pratt?!) show for Lifetime. I don't know if Pratt herself was responsible for Sassy including the duo in their "Cute Band Alert," but here they are, adorable moppets as always. What's especially great about this clip is Pratt's complete and utter disbelief that people can record music on ONLY FOUR TRACKS OMG. Dean and Gene, as usual, great sports:
