Some Very Friendly Ladies

I know I've written about this band before, but whatever. I'll stop from saying too much about Cookies for fear of tainting a few paragraphs I'll be writing elsewhere, but "Super Legal" (mp3) is one of the b-sides to the wonderful single "Meet Me At the Lights," so it's fair game. While the a-side, and much of the record's first half (and the video) will lead more than a few of you dudes toward Supergrass' In it for the Money, "Legal" will channel entirely different points of reference. All revved-up guitars, bongos and an ad-hoc, in-joke duet betwen a freaked-out Jackie McKeown and playfully alluring Lovefoxxx from CSS, it could have scored an interstitial trailer before Tarantino's muscle-car b-movie homage Death Proof. McKeown, sounding like Frank Black to Lovefoxxx's Kim Deal, opens the song by introducing his pleasurable predicament: "I was kidnapped by some ladies, they were very friendly ladies," then allowing his captor the refrain. As many in the presence of the effortlessly cool frontwoman might also attest, McKeown repeatedly voices his biggest fear: losing his cool. Vroom, vroom.

And because I know so many of you are just dying to know how Norah Jones' Monday night show in Phoenix was, I direct you here. Yes, they played Dodge commercials between sets.

Philip Michael Thomas + Angel Dust = Rats in the Grocery Store, et al. Apropos of nothing, really.

And, apropos of the fact that he's a marathonpal, here's Pete Ohs' great new video for Ghosthustler's "Parking Lot Nights." SMELL THE GLOVE, indeed.
