Midwest Music Summit 2006

Tuesday, July 11, 2006

August is rapidly approaching, and for those of us in Indiana, that means the return of the three-day Midwest Music Summit. And while this year’s lineup isn’t as totally amazing as it has been in years past (one Cat Power performance in particular comes to mind), there are plenty of reasons to shell out 20 bucks for a three-day pass. It leans pretty heavily toward the indie rock, but that’s cool, because there are still like several hundred sets going on from Thursday to Saturday within a few miles of each other (most within walking distance from one another in the Broad Ripple area on Indy’s near-north side), and Dr. Octagon is playing, which promises to be interesting. And Friday night at Locals Only is pretty much a who’s who of Indy indie rock, that you really shouldn’t miss. After a quick pass through the lineup, these are the sets I plan on hitting, with Indy bands asterisked. Take a look at MMS’s full lineup and tell me what I’m missing. I’ll keep updating this thing. If you really feel like taking in the whole deal, I’ll be on an industry-ish panel (interestingly titled “Web Blog Promotions: New Media Isn’t So New Anymore”) discussing blogging and how awesome it is with a mess of other bloggers, moderated (to the extent that anything he does is moderate) by the ever-irascible Dodge, and taking place on Saturday morning.
