The Croatian Sensation With No Explanation.

Oh, thank the stars for my Internet-trawling, weirdness-obsessed pal Mike, who emails me and a select group of people I've never met about 5 or 6 links per week of weird music-related news and web detritus. Stuff's made it onto here before, but nothing ever to the scale of Levon Levan, known to his cultish following as "The Croatian Sensation with No Explanation." And yes, he is the Croatian Tom Jones, for those of you waiting to fill in your "c" requirement in your alphabetical list of Eastern European Tom Joneses. And no, I didn't make that .gif up there, and yes, I am ashamed of posting it.

But Tom Jones hasn't recorded (or, at least released) anything as boldly confessional as "I Wonder If She's Kinky" (mp3), which is, at the very least, a clear indication of the lack of a filter between Levan's unconscious and his studio microphone. He wonders aloud what all men wonder aloud at one point: "Does she reach hot ocean with her hand and emotion?", and the downright scary and hopefully mis-translated "How kinky does she get when she plays Russian roulette?" I really hope he's referring to a game with a wheel and a metal ball. Or a sex thing. Either way, there's more music here, along with a homemade video for "She's Looking Good" (wmv), which shows Levan strutting around an urban area with his pants pulled up really high, buying flowers and generally looking like he's searching for that duffel bag with the guns in it. The fact that he abruptly metals out for the chorus means that you really need to watch this. I put it on Youtube, too, so go there and watch it.
