Cliff Triplett & Matt Goodwin "Nintendo Weekend"

Over the last four years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with, teach and form friendships with some of the brightest, hardworking and most interesting people I’ll ever meet, and I’m more than a little bittersweet about the fact that this chapter of my professional life is coming to an end. I tend to be annoyingly sentimental about things like this, which I’ll set aside temporarily (you’re welcome) in lieu of showcasing a little side-project thrown together by two of the coolest students I’ve come into contact with at this particular school. The music on this piece, all RJD2 of it, was slapped together by “Cliff” (nom de plume) one bored afternoon on Apple’s Soundtrack software (all legal, loop-based), and lingered in hard drive purgatory until Matt needed something to show at the school’s film festival. Thus, we have the collaboration “Nintendo Weekend,” (mp4) (save-as) of which I am proud, unable to get enough, and, unfortunately, can take no pedagogical credit.
awesome! i feel slightly humbled. goodwin got good! almost michel gondry-ish with the matching of specific visuals to the different loops.
question: am i missed something? why the ‘nintendo’ reference?

The title “nintendo weekend” was a kinda nostolgic name for me. When I composed the song the bassline reminded me a lot of a song from a level in the original Mega MAn game for Nintendo. I was brought back to 1st grade when my buddies and I would play nintendo becuase there was little else to do. Often we would spend entire weekends trying to beat contra, mario 3, or blades of steel…
