XTC “Life Begins at the Hop” Gaston Hall 1.25.1980
Wednesday, March 1, 2006
Cool things about this clip (which, mind you, is not of the quality of the picture above, from the same show):
XTC “Life Begins at the Hop” (m4v) (right-click and save as)
1. XTC pulled a Beatles (or is it a Steely Dan) and quit touring after Andy Partridge collapsed from exhaustion while on the road in March 1982. They haven’t gone back out since, despite releasing some of the best records of the last 25 years.
2. This show took place in Gaston Hall on the campus of Georgetown University, and the crowd is jumping as ecstatically as if at Brixton. That’s about the only bonus of the camera position at the back of the crowd—seeing the silhouetted heads bobbing.

I still get a lump in my throat every time I see an XTC video…I was supposed to see them in Detroit in 1982 on the English Settlement tour and Andy announced he couldn’t continue with the tour only 2 DAYS BEFORE I WAS SUPPOSED TO SEE THEM! My favorite band ever.
by the way Eric, that link is messed up…took me to screenloads of gibberish…and here I was procrastinating the day away to watch a 25+ year old video…ack!
you need to right-click and save as—these m4v files won’t play in your browser. they’ll work with quicktime or itunes, though.
mac.
gotta control+click
got it now. thanks!
mac too…third party mouse
glad you got it!
Hmmm, I’m only getting offered a text file here.

I LOVE “Life Begins at the Hop.” Its one of my favorite XTC songs. I just wrote a lyrical analysis of XTC’s “No Thugs in Our House” on my blog. If you’re into XTC, you should check it out. Its a killer song.
