Absentee “In the Toilets Again”

Wednesday, January 4, 2006

The name’s not deceiving. Led by the effortless broken baritone of lead singer Dan Michaelson, Absentee’s “In the Toilets Again” is a languid lament for love that could easily come from Bill Callahan or David Barman. Michaelson sings from just this side of exhaustion about what should be, but never gives any indication that he has the energy to make anything happen. I get a visual of him singing while half-lying on a couch, upside down with his head on the carpet, sort of trying to watch television.

Absentee is working on their first full-length, and their Donkey Stock EP is available here from Memphis Industries.
