Tangiers "Classless and Green"
Friday, November 11, 2005
A notch above the usual “high school sucked and this is why” songs, Toronto-based Tangiers’ “Classless and Green” (mp3) issues forth a nice balance between youthful romantic yearning (”beeee miiiine”) and the resulting temper flares (”They bloodied your name/And I bloodied their nose”). The rest of The Family Myth offers more of the same–lyrics exploring all avenues of the album’s evocative title and music that strikes a pleasant balance between the zeitgeist-y jagged post-punk sound and, at times, the rich, mature pop sound of The Coral. Plus, they have former Guided by Voices drummer (and provider of some of the finest rock drumming of the past decade, on Isolation Drills) Jon McCann on board, which I have to dig.
