Sioen “Ease Your Mind”

Wednesday, November 30, 2005

Belgian pop crooner Sioen has created a great, hook-filled little pop record with Ease Your Mind. Those that remember the unfortunately quickly vanished debut from Owsley, and/or own more than one record from either Squeeze, The Odds, Crowded House or The Sugarplastic will no doubt find much to like here. It’s full of delightful melodies (”Favourite” in particular is very reminiscent of Aimee Mann’s “Momentum”) effortlessly yet memorably constructed from piano, bass and drums, with the occasional electric guitar, trumpet and violin sneaking in for good measure. It’s the kind of elegant, unassuming record that has the capacity to sneak by unnoticed–let’s do our best to not let that happen. Begin by digging title track “Ease Your Mind” (mp3), and/or checking out the song’s video as well (mpg).
