Awesome Cool Dudes “St. Basil”

Falling somewhere between Ween, Midnite Vultures, United State of Electronica, and MC 900 Ft. Jesus, the Awesome Cool Dudes need to be seen, much like the first and third examples mentioned, to be fully appreciated. Their often hilarious and always entertaining live sets perfectly complement their insanely catchy songs, with the band more often than not dressed in matching basketball uniforms or some manner of neon attire (squint when gazing at the above picture to avoid ocular damage). Lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jay (far left in above pic) tends to take over most shows, bending his wiry frame into myriad gangly dance moves and often venturing out into typically apprehensive yet appreciative crowds. They’re playing Bloomington on Friday before traipsing across the greater Midwest. Catch them if you can–you won’t regret it. But first, dig an oldie: “St. Basil” (mp3)
