Hanne Hukkelberg “Do Not As I Do”

Hanne Hukkelberg rode her bike around Oslo over the past two years, recording all kinds of random sounds. They’ve been magically transformed into a great album, the appropriately titled Little Things. It’s not the precious toybox one would assume, though. The sounds are woven seamlessly throughout the songs, which stand on their own as well-composed and confidently delivered little wonders. Hukkelberg’s voice is what’s really on display here, echoing the quirky inflections of Roisin Murphy and firmly rooting the music in the jazz-pop idiom. She even briefly scats during “Do Not As I Do” (mp3).
