Lindstrøm & Prins Thomas “Foreløpig Bit”

Wednesday, September 7, 2005

I’ve tried thus far to make a point of not writing about (with infrequent exceptions) electronic or dance music here at marathonpacks, preferring to leave it to those more well-versed in the genre, like Matt Fluxblog. However, I came across the eponymous release by Norwegian producers/DJs Lindstrom & Prins Thomas, and I couldn’t resist the scoop. The duo had been working independently before 2003, when they combined forces out of their mutual appreciation for, as Lindstrom’s Feedelity website phrases it, “futuristic disko and universal boogie!!!”

Track “Foreløpig Bit” (mp3) is a marvel of minimalist electronic production, beginning with a snare/hi-hat rhythm soon joined by disco handclaps and a Moroder bassline. Gradually, it adds some Kraftwerk synth bits, but never overdoing it. I love the way the melody settles down and the song finally coalesces at 2:09.

Update (9/8): Nick Sylvester’s review of a LPT gig.

Lindstrom & Prins Thomas will be released in November on Belgian label Eskimo Recordings.
