Four Tet “Iron Man”

Wednesday, September 14, 2005

After four stellar releases under the Four Tet guise, Kieran Hebdan has become one of the most sought out artists for remix projects–and he’s accepted many times, tackling Bloc Party, that Sia song from Six Feet Under, Cyne, Juana Molina, Doves, Aphex Twin, and Badly Drawn Boy among others, acheiving the singular feat of reinventing and improving two songs (”The Weight of My Words” by Kings of Convenience and “Money Folder” by Madvillain).

His sound is instantly recognizable, a goulash of skittering electronic beats and snapping snare drums with a range of acoustic, often “world” instrumentation, including gamelan, harp, thumb piano and guitar, combining to create a uniquely disquieting yet soothing sound. He proves again his uncanny ability at interpretation with his delightfully straightforward cover of Black Sabbath’s dirge “Iron Man” (mp3), from the covers collection Everything Comes and Goes.
